Mr Stefano Mallia has been a member of the European Economic and Social Committee since 2010 and is the President of the EESC Employers' Group since 2020. He served in different roles at the EESC before, i.a. as Vice-President of the Employers' Group and President of the Brexit follow-up Committee within the EESC. He has been actively involved as Rapporteur in the drawing up of a number of key Opinions on issues such as Brexit, Cohesion Policy, On-Line Gaming, the Common Strategic Framework, Immigration in the Mediterranean, and the drawing up of a MacroRegional Strategy for the Mediterranean area. During the period 2010 – 2013 Stefano was Vice President, Deputy President and President of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry. He was also heavily involved in the merger between the Malta Chamber of Commerce and the Malta Federation of Industry. He was also the President of the Malta Business Foundation and Board Member of the European Chamber of Commerce. Stefano is an expert in EU affairs where he has specialised in EU Structural Funds and SME financing. He has an excellent knowledge of the EU institutions. He has been involved in a number of high profile assignments for both the private sector and the public sector and has carried out a number of EU impact assessments for various sectors of the economy. Stefano has been a key author of various important documents concerning Structural Funds in Malta and has been engaged in evaluations of various EU funded projects and programmes. Stefano has also been involved in the carrying out of assignments for the European Commission as well as EU agencies such as DG ECFIN and the European Agency for SMEs (EASME). During the course of his work both in Malta and with the EU he has developed networks with a number of European consultancy firms as well as Universities and academic institutions in the UK, Italy and Belgium. Stefano is also active in the private sector. Since 1998, he is a partner at EMCS Ltd., an economic analysis and business consultancy. He is responsible for the HR function of the company as well as conducting economic analyses and market research.
