Dario Edoardo Viganò (27th June 1962, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is the Prefect of the Secretariat for Communication of the Holy See as of June 27 2015. He was Director of the Vatican Television Center - CTV from January 22nd 2013 to December 21st 2015.
He is a Professor of the Theology of Communication at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and was the Dean of the Pastoral Institute "Redemptor Hominis" from 2006 to 2012 and Diretor of the Centro Lateranense Alti Studi - CLAS. He directs the Master in Digital Journalism, organized by CLAS Pontificia Università Lateranense (as of 2013) together with Emilio Carelli.
Viganò lectured in Audio-visual language and markets at the Political Science Department of LUISS "Guido Carli" University of Rome from 2005 to 2015, being also a member of the Directing Committee for the research centre Centre for Media and Communication Studies (CMCS) "Massimo Baldini" (today Centre for Media and Democratic Innovations "Massimo Baldini").
Viganò was President of the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo and Director of the Italian cinema journal «Rivista del Cinematografo» from 2004 to 2013; he was also President of the "Commissione Nazionale Valutazione Film" (CNVF) of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI) from 2004 to 2013. He is a member of the Administrative Council of FEdS, responsabilities with the Publishing Sector.
He was a member of the Administrative Council for the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (CSC) from 2008 to 2012, with responsibilities in the Italian National Film Archive and in the Publishing Sector, and he was a member of the Subcommittee for the Recognition of Cultural Interests (feature films) for the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities from 2006 to 2011.
Viganò is the author of numerous studies dedicated to the analysis of the relationship between the media and the Catholic church, with particular attention paid to Cinema.
